Subject, Audience & Purpose

For this project, the business is already well established, the business chosen being eDecks and as the name suggests the business is all about decking and gardening things. Due to their problem being their sales dropping in winter (as being told from the guy that came in to tell us what eDecks wishes to be done) the brief was to help them boost their sales in winter, and if possible also boost the sales for the ModBlox that they sell for their decks to help customers build them easier. Due to how more spring and summer orientated the website is the sales drop in winter, with a drop of over 50%, which could also be a marketing issue which is why the marketing students were also asked to help. This means that we had to work alongside the marketing students to help produce visual solutions to the problem with sales, to hopefully promote eDecks in all seasons. The ModBlox was also something that was added to eDecks not long ago so it would also be good to promote that as well.  

For the subject of this project as mentioned before it’s to help boost the business’s sales up in winter and promote their ModBlox product. When asking deeper about the creative freedom in the sense of changing the website, the business’s response was to hopefully keep its current look. Therefore, the website hasn’t been changed, and the subject of the upcoming work is strictly focusing on ModBlox and winter.  

When thinking about the type of customers that will buy and be interested in eDeck’s products the first ones that are obvious are gardeners, due to all the gardening equipment and the whole name and logo. When looking into their website it’s also clear that another type of customer that would be interested in eDecks are DIY enthusiasts that are wanting to make their own deck. This is where their deck kits come in handy, which are quite heavily advertised in eDecks socials. When looking at their YouTube (1) they showcase how to install their products by yourself, which shows that people can do it alone and the way they explain the steps makes it look easy and possible for a lot of people which is likely to attract DIY enthusiasts.

The overall purpose of this project is to not only boost sales in winter and promote more ModBlox but to also use the budget that they have set the marketing students in mind. To also coordinate and cooperate with the marketing team to create an on brand promotional visual pieces of work that will align with the company goals and ideas.
