Collaboration in web design

Working in groups was heavily important, helping us build on ideas and exchange experiences and skills from others. Contributing to groups is important for any graphic designer to be able to also take criticism from their fellow colleagues. Group projects also help with including the more quiet and shy people that may have brilliant ideas but are too afraid to speak about them in front of larger groups of people.

When doing the first group project which was to come up with a concept for a website/app that would encourage teenage gamers to adopt sustainable practices. Together with my group we came up with the ‘Hand’ app, that everyone contributed to equally from a group of four people. When it came to my contribution I gave the idea for a animation on the app that would encourage gamers to adopt sustainable practices by being able to see their progress visually and over time that way it would feel like a reward for their efforts so far. What I would have changed from my contribution would have been the need to speak more in group discussions, when the team is thinking of new ideas to add to the website/app to make sure that I add new and creative ideas to help better the campaign.

For the second group task we had to review a already existing website that was given to us, everyone in our group was given a task within ourselves so we could cover more of the website and also get various aspects of it. One person had the current website, another had their social media and I had competitive research, to go and see how and what the competitors are doing. Due to the fact that everyone had their own different tasks there weren’t as many team discussions until the end where we compared what we found and commented on it. For this reason I explained in the captions of my points in more detail how this competitor and their website can help improve the website of the campaign we were looking at. Later on, when the time to check with our whole group came, we wrote under in captions what we think to summarise the discussion we had.
